STUDIO RATES

 

Minimum charge = 2 hours, £165

Next 3 hours = £45 per hour

Thereafter, £35 per hour

This covers all studio work undertaken within the time of the studio session - recording, producing, editing, mastering, basic photography, supply of master CD . There are no hidden extras.

Professional CD design services and portrait photography are negotiated separately.

• Please note that audio masters will only be issued upon full payment and remain property of the studio until then.

 

RECORDING TIPS

• Recording vs. concerts

When pianists give concerts they often have to adapt their dynamic range to project to the most distant listeners in the venue. Larger auditoriums sometimes require pianists to sacrifice quality of tone to produce sufficient sound.

In the recording environment, any level of playing volume can be captured and digitally maximised. This offers pianists the advantage of playing within an ideal dynamic range.

• Scores

If you are playing music which is already scored, it is often useful bring a copy, even if you play from memory.

• Listening

At the beginning of the recording session, we make test recordings. There no single best way to record pianists.

When listening back to test recordings, this is a good opportunity talk and to make adjustments.

 

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL

We are situated in Broomhill, a historic and thriving Sheffield suburb, close to the university and 10 minutes from the railway station and city centre. Nearby there are excellent hotels, shops and restaurants offering all types of cuisine, many within walking distance.

Artists recording here are welcome guests. If you are staying over a period of days, we are happy to look after you when you are here and to advise on the best local facilities.
